Position Description

The Toptal network includes thousands of top engineers, designers, finance experts, project managers, and more from over 100 countries, working with leading companies on mission-critical projects. The mission of the Talent Screening team is to review and screen aspiring Talent that want to join the Toptal network. In joining this team, you will have the opportunity to interact with world-class talent from around the world.

As the Manager of Screening Programs, you’ll build and manage programs that deliver training to screeners, and therefore enable screeners to deliver a consistent and positive experience to talent during interviews. Training topics will include hard technical skills, soft skills, onboarding, and continuous improvement topics. This is an important role that will ensure that the positive characteristics of the screening team are maintained and enhanced, especially as the team continues to scale quickly. Your role will enable the screening team to thrive in a dynamic, hyper growth environment.

This is a remote position that can be done from anywhere. Due to the remote nature of this role, we are unable to provide visa sponsorship. Resumes and communication must be submitted in English.


  • Build and manage training programs for the screeners who conduct interviews.
  • Work independently and with colleagues to identify areas in the screening experience that would benefit from a more consistent or structured approach, and develop training programs to address gaps.
  • Dive deep into talent feedback to better understand the screening experience today, and identify opportunities to improve it.
  • Work with teams within Talent Operations to develop training materials for screeners.
  • Manage training programs through all stages of the program lifecycle: initial ideation and program development, reviewing with stakeholders, defining success criteria, roll-out of programs, project managing programs, and analyzing and presenting results.
  • Participate in the launch of new skill verticals and products at Toptal by supporting the development of screening processes.

In the first week, expect to:

  • Onboard and integrate into Toptal.
  • Become familiar with the various platforms and systems used to screen Toptal talent.
  • Meet and shadow key teams across the company to learn the core of Toptal’s operations and business units.

In the first month, expect to:

  • Have a full understanding of talent and client journey from initial application and sign up to the start of an engagement.
  • Learn and understand existing Screening content (including custom screening paths) and key processes in Screening Operations.

In the first three months, expect to:

  • Manage the development of training content for key focus areas.
  • Deep-dive into talent feedback and identify a roadmap of future program areas.

In the first six months, expect to:

  • Develop 2-3 screener training programs.
  • Support strategic initiatives and new product launches that require screener training.
  • Hire specialists as needed to execute programs.

In the first year, expect to:

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive roadmap of screener training programs.
  • Review the early results of launched programs.
  • Drive measurable improvement in talent experience and consistency across the screening organization.


  • 5+ years combined business operations and/or consulting experience.
  • Experience in building and delivering business operational improvement programs in medium-sized organizations.
  • Experience designing training programs for medium-sized operational workforces is an added bonus.
  • Prior work in a technical environment with direct exposure to software engineering, and an understanding of underlying concepts (i.e. code review, unit testing, code documentation) is an added bonus.
  • Ability to leverage data to perform root cause analysis and address the source of issues.
  • Strong collaboration skills and demonstrated ability to influence and execute effectively in a cross-functional environment.
  • Impeccable organization skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to apply effective change management principles and consider the human element of change.
  • Excellent presentation, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be a high-integrity, team player with the flexibility to meet the demands of changing business priorities.

As Toptal's SVP of Talent Operations, Christy is accountable for ensuring successful client outcomes by delivering the right talent from our global network, matched to client business needs and timeframe. Prior to Toptal, Christy spent more than a decade in management consulting at Bain & Company, and she later joined Rackspace as General Manager of their cybersecurity business. Christy earned a BS in Computer Science and Electrical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and an MBA from Columbia Business School.

Greg Coburn

VP of Talent Screening

As Toptal's VP of Talent Screening, Greg is responsible for managing the talent screening team, who assess the skills and expertise of applicants to Toptal's Talent Network. Before Toptal, Greg worked at Rackspace, where he held many roles in product and operations. In those roles, Greg concentrated on process improvement and automation driven by data analytics and insights. Greg also has experience in the telecommunication industry, where he led an international team in designing and building a proprietary workforce management system. Greg graduated from Texas A&M University with a BS in Finance.
