Position Description

The Toptal network includes thousands of top engineers, designers, finance experts, project managers, and more from over 100 countries, working with leading companies on mission-critical projects.

The mission of the Talent Screening team is to review and screen aspiring Talent that want to join the Toptal network. By joining this team, you will have the opportunity to interact with world-class talent from around the globe.

As a Screening Operations Specialist, you will drive business impact by supporting operational leaders with better, more data-driven decision-making. You will help to enable day-to-day processes as well as major projects and initiatives to improve performance. Specific responsibilities include writing queries, pulling data, building and updating reports and dashboards, and providing general analytics support.

This is a remote position that can be done from anywhere. Due to the remote nature of this role, we are unable to provide visa sponsorship. Resumes and communication must be submitted in English.

Responsibilities:

  • Support team leads by improving capacity planning and modeling based on forecasted demand and other relevant data.
  • Gather and transform data from a shared database for experiments and autonomous analyses.
  • Monitor performance of new screening experiments and communicate results to stakeholders.
  • Work with project and screening leads to continue to optimize the screening process.
  • Monitor performance of key metrics for the organization and alert relevant teams when a metric exceeds defined benchmarks.
  • Gather requirements for custom screening paths from multiple teams.
  • Work with vertical subject matter experts to optimize tasks and screening content based on desired outcome of the custom screening path.
  • Evaluate and prioritize requests for custom screening paths based on defined frameworks.
  • Work cross-functionally with Sales, Matching, Screening, Supply, and Product teams to achieve stakeholder sign-off on new custom screening paths.
  • Drive consistency and documentation across all custom screening paths.

In the first week, expect to:

  • Onboard and integrate into Toptal.
  • Become familiar with the various platforms and systems Screening Operations utilizes in screening Toptal talent.
  • Meet and shadow key teams across the company to learn the core of Toptal’s operations and business units.

In the first month, expect to:

  • Have a full understanding of talent and client journey from an initial application/sign up to the start of an engagement.
  • Learn and understand the existing screening metrics and reports.
  • Learn and understand existing custom screening paths and the process of creating new ones.

In the first three months, expect to:

  • Support the screening organization by improving capacity planning based on forecasted demand and other relevant data.
  • Monitor performance of new screening experiments and communicate results to stakeholders.
  • Work cross-functionally with different teams on kicking-off new screening paths.

In the first six months, expect to:

  • Gather and transform data from a shared database for experiments and autonomous analyses.
  • Work with project leads and screening leads to continue to optimize the screening process.
  • Monitor performance of key metrics for the organization and alert relevant teams when a metric exceeds defined benchmarks.

In the first year, expect to:

  • Act as a subject matter authority on the Screening Operations Specialist role.
  • Continue to promote an environment of teamwork and collaboration.
  • Offer insights and ways to maximize screening performance, productivity and efficiency based on feedback from screening stakeholders, experience and data insights.

Requirements:

  • 2-3+ years of data analysis or related operations experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in data, engineering, business, or a related field preferred.
  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to manipulate, organize, analyze, and present data with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Experience with databases and writing SQL queries.
  • Experience with Google Data Studio, Power BI, or other data visualization software.
  • Must have excellent written and oral communication skills. Good communication is at the core of everything we do, and you must be a strong communicator able to work with a wide range of stakeholders from senior executives to individual contributors.
  • Excellent organization skills and detail-oriented. You are hyper-organized, know how to work efficiently, execute, and prioritize work within a team.
  • Resourceful. You should be a self-starter who thrives on the freedom and accountability that comes with managing your own workflow.
  • Adaptable. Comfortable managing changing priorities, learning new skills and building consensus across varied stakeholder groups.

As Toptal's SVP of Talent Operations, Christy is accountable for ensuring successful client outcomes by delivering the right talent from our global network, matched to client business needs and timeframe. Prior to Toptal, Christy spent more than a decade in management consulting at Bain & Company, and she later joined Rackspace as General Manager of their cybersecurity business. Christy earned a BS in Computer Science and Electrical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and an MBA from Columbia Business School.

Greg Coburn

Greg Coburn

VP of Talent Screening

As Toptal's VP of Talent Screening, Greg is responsible for managing the talent screening team, who assess the skills and expertise of applicants to Toptal's Talent Network. Before Toptal, Greg worked at Rackspace, where he held many roles in product and operations. In those roles, Greg concentrated on process improvement and automation driven by data analytics and insights. Greg also has experience in the telecommunication industry, where he led an international team in designing and building a proprietary workforce management system. Greg graduated from Texas A&M University with a BS in Finance.
