Recommended best liquidity and risk management practices to the head of market risk and his team. Created reports to monitor gap exposures, market value of equity, and sensitivity analysis to interest rates on a monthly basis.
    • Conducted a comprehensive balance sheet as well as market risk and valuation analysis of the European subsidiaries of a multinational company. Built advanced financial models to forecast monthly earnings, perform scenario simulations, and estimate the market value of equity. Trained a team of four analysts on best modeling practices. Created and documented detailed standard operating procedures to operate the models and update reports.
    • Advised a US investor in the successful sale of private-market shares of a multi-billion Latin American conglomerate. Developed the valuation methodology to estimate the fair value of the shares. Sourced two interested buyers from my network. Participated in the negotiation process and in the execution of the sale of these shares at a valuation in line with my estimates.
    • Advised the sushi-focused startup Sushi Pop on the investment amount required for the rollout of the first delivery center and the first restaurant in Lima, Peru. Evaluated and recommended the real estate locations for the initial growth stage. Integrated the food cost model with a comprehensive financial model that included KPIs to track the business on a monthly basis.
    • Enhanced the financial model of the project to include project timelines, target IRR, expected profitability, and payouts. Evaluated and improved their marketing documents and investor deck. Proposed a target capital structure that required $5 to $10 million of equity capital and funding via project finance.

Performed extensive analysis of the data room, industry players, and value chain on three deals per year on average.
    • Leveraged self-developed relationships with ECM deal captains to obtain sizable allocations in capital raises. Worked closely with underwriters to provide valuation and research feedback on equity issuance deals. Developed relationship with issuers during fundraising events such as pre-IPO rounds and test the waters roadshows.
    • Revamped the hiring process and training program to recruit analysts and interns. Recruited two analysts to join the team. Implemented an internship program that successfully preserved interns for one year on average.

    • Enhanced the fund’s investment process for situations arising from spinoffs, turnarounds, tenders, SPACs and restructurings, increasing analyst output by one investment idea per quarter. Built hundreds of financial models that included financial statement projections, earnings power analysis, cash flow-based valuation, private market value, comparable multiples, and scenario simulations.
    • Evaluated a sub-$10 million distressed investment in the private Mexican subsidiary of a bankrupt US company and recommended against the investment. Conducted extensive analysis of the business model, the assets and the marketplace, and determined the operating targets set by management were unrealistic. The Mexican subsidiary ultimately filed for bankruptcy in three years.
    • Supervised the content and preparation of the weekly internal research note that was discussed with the principal and portfolio manager. Systematized the inclusion of relevant information updates for our portfolio holdings and watch list names, as well as a summarized overview of macro trends that could impact our investments.
