Project History

  • Healthcare Data-Curation
    Led the design and development of a healthcare data processing platform in pursuit of a strategic market opportunity.

    The Healthcare Data Curation platform is a new platform built from the ground up with the express purpose to process and normalize healthcare data from multiple hospitals and clinical sources. The Curation platform's vision leverages institutional knowledge acquired from previous work with non-profit healthcare information exchange organizations.

    I was able to articulate previous challenges with healthcare data processing and influence the new design. Depending on the functional area, my input was provided as design specification documents with descriptive text, wireframes, business process flows, and sample API request/responses. I also used a Wiki to capture and distribute business and technical knowledge.

    From a technology perspective, the platform is comprised of Cassandra, Elasticsearch, MS SQL data stores, and frequently stores data as JSON documents. Microservices are written in C# (MVC) or Python. Services are hosted on Windows and Linux servers, with some migration to Docker containers. The web UI is a series of React applications and runs on IIS. Currently, I am running the data center with long-term plans to move to the cloud as the product expands.

  • Data Processing Platform for Regional HIE Clients
    Led clients and internal teams to develop and implement custom platform functions for processing live feeds of PHI patient data.

    Healthcare data exchange is a complex and changing topic with many challenges. Our client was very frustrated with delays due to a lack of communication and transparency. Once assigned to the client, I reestablished the trust and introduced a 60-day plan to make measurable progress. Subsequently, I aligned with our internal development team to ensure features were built and tested prior to sharing with clients. The client expressed satisfaction with my management about progress (I got a bonus). When I was promoted and facilitating transition, the client shared genuine concern about losing me from 'their team.'

    The HIE platform is a SaaS platform that acquires and normalizes healthcare data from numerous hospital systems. Aggregated patient data is available to doctors in the web-based portal and the HIE organization through data files delivered over SFTP. The platform was built using C# as a series of Windows services interacting with a combination of MS SQL and Elasticsearch storage. The web portal is Bootstrap with C# APIs for data access or manipulation (MVC).

  • Contact Center Technology Upgrade
    Identified existing bottlenecks and led a team of internal and contractor resources to deliver a contact center full-stack technology replacement in half the original estimated time for the project with iterative MVPs along the way.

    Provided aggressive front-line leadership for a call center replacement project with a 3-year history of analysis-paralysis. Identified short-term quick wins for contact center staff to provide immediate business value while continuing work on long-term objectives. Persisted with teams to replace the full technology stack for the contact center far sooner than projected timelines (about half the time).

    Cultivated relationships with call center management to effectively elicit and understand business needs. Collaborated with international vendors to build custom voice and call routing applications. Partnered with the internal development team to build account access web services for voice applications.

    Motivated team members with analysis-paralysis to take action. Provided leadership by example, by doing what 'could not be done'. Mentored junior analysts during this time to raise the caliber of the entire team.

  • REGIS Accounting System
    Delivered a proprietary general ledger accounting system with challenging business partners and sudden loss of primary analyst.

    Contributed to a high-profile enterprise accounting project after sudden departure of a team member. Rapidly absorbed details of the business requirements, current status, and other details to maintain project momentum.

    Developed mutual working trust with a challenging business partner to elicit remaining requirements. Worked closely with project manager, QA manager, and developers for successful delivery.

    Provided consulting and subject matter expertise for phase two of a TouchPoint sales and service implementation with a focus on the sales and marketing modules of the system. Collaborated with business users and vendors to ensure accurate requirements documentation for the new module.

    Assisted with the design and testing of a custom reporting solution for vendor database. Worked directly with the developer to validate reporting solutions and create user training materials. Provided weekly status reports to senior project management.
