Work Experience

Director of Product

2020 - 2022
Charlotte Tilbury
  • Oversaw roadmapping at scale, advising our CTO and CEO on technology, vendor selection and management, product strategy, and strategic discovery, all the way down to detailed business incident management and service delivery day by day.
  • Led and line-managed a product organization of seven incredible product people, some of whom I trained from the beginning of their careers in product.
  • Ran different products, including our eCommerce website, but also shoppable virtual consultations systems, in-store retail tech, native apps, and an omnichannel loyalty proposition.

Founder and Consultant Product Manager

2017 - 2020
Ordinary Objects
  • Built dozens of high-value backlogs and roadmaps delivering valuable software in health, telecoms, transport, real estate, and more.
  • Adapted Lean and Agile methodologies for clients running AI-driven and data-science-driven teams where work is often more experimental, requiring different kinds of planning upfront.
  • Brought a complex product to life from a small set of screenshots and a requirements document, culminating in a living, prioritized roadmap and a product concept whose drivers were of maximal value to users as quickly as possible.
  • Mentored clients on product management, Agile, and Scrum with customized in-house workshops. Topics included how to measure value and what is the purpose of a definition of ready and a definition of done.
  • Undertook market research and discovery on a flagship pharmaceutical delivery product, culminating in a set of commercial and product recommendations and a sketched MVP.

Product Owner and Systems Analyst

2013 - 2016
Transport for London
  • Served as an Agile product owner and subject matter expert on the Fares and Aggregation Engine (FAE), a key component of TfL’s world-leading contactless ticketing system. This award-winning system, developed in-house, constructs and corrects 2 million+ journeys a day for Londoners, running them through dozens of configurable sequential algorithms, culminating in assigning fares and price-capping them. The Contactless ticketing system has had no unplanned downtime or customer incidents since the public launch in September 2014.
  • Defined functional specifications and wrote end-to-end ticketing business logic for key projects such as running Night Tube operations, mitigating disrupted travel, automatic pattern-based journey corrections, Bus Hopper, and rolling out contactless ticketing on riverboat services and the Emirates Air Line.
  • Provided technical knowledge and commercial support to the Business Development arm of TfL. Supported a major £15 million software sale to Cubic Transportation Systems in 2016.
  • Situated in a Scaled Agile (scrum of scrums) 2-week sprint framework and 6-week delivery cycle as the product owner.

Product Manager

State
  • Reported directly to the founder on mission-critical analytics projects involving advanced quantitative segmentation using SQL and Excel. Extracted insights such as gaps in key flows like onboarding, return visits, and content curation.
  • Owned moderation roadmap for State. Oversaw integration of 3rd-party service, focused complex project by defining clear milestones for a minimum viable solution.
  • Managed weekly outbound comms across marketing, community, and development teams, with a 100% on-time delivery track record.
  • Planned and project-managed product publicity events involving media attention, live demos, and high profile tech figures.
  • Interviewed users and collated user feedback to understand key user personas and jobs to be done.

Product Lead

Project History

Reinventing Pay-As-You-Go Travel on London's Transport Network

http://content.tfl.gov.uk/contactless-top-line-figure.pdf

Led and evolved the world-first Fares & Aggregation Engine, a system for turning EMV payment card taps into smart journeys.

London has one of the easiest-to-use transport ticketing systems in the world, and this is a testament to the hard work of technology visionaries at Transport for London. As a key part of the product team working on the Contactless payment system, I specified, backlogged, and road mapped work in such streams as end of day reconciliation and Night Tube functionality, RiverBus travel, smart, dynamic disruptions handling, automatic user forgiveness for accidental taps and missing taps, capping behavior, revenue inspection, and more. I was a key subject matter expert on this project and led a high-performing team comprised of senior to junior dev and test team members.

Bringing Digital Primary Healthcare to People Who Need It Most

https://www.doctorlink.com/

Took flagship product to market as senior product manager and first hire at Doctorlink, an NHS-endorsed health tech scale-up.

When I began my contract with Doctorlink, the team had a promising product concept validated through a six-month pilot. But they were new to product management, with no backlog, no roadmap, no product team, and no production system. Right away I got to work: I set up their first scrum board and began prioritizing blocker features that stood in the way of an MVP. We built reporting, safeguarding, migration tools, and GDPR and privacy features at a breakneck pace. Within a month, we had a live product. I spent the next 12 months scaling this product and owned their video consultation proposition as well as doing a detailed product discovery and putting forward a business case around online pharmacy ordering and fulfillment. By the time I rolled off the project, the product management team numbered 5, and Doctorlink's product was going from strength to strength, with 100,000 patients signed up to use the tool for digital triage across the majority of NHS primary care districts in England.
