Project History

Flexible Automated Submission Transfer (FAST): Project Manager and Product Owner

FAST is a flexible automated transfer of submissions. It was an effort to automate one of the most time-intensive part of the underwriting process.

I was the project manager and the product owner of FAST. I defined specs for the requirements and came up with ideas to make the tool easier to use for the underwriters.

The project is an initiative tool to automate the submission import process, which is time-intensive. The tool adds a lot to efficiency for the underwriters.

Managed scrum meetings and the scrum team in addition to the change management for FAST as it was a new project and needed acceptance from the user community.

Created various reports and presentations to keep the stakeholders aware of the project's developments and the sponsors informed of the project's progress.

Global Rating Platform (GRP)

GRP is one of the most business-critical projects in Swiss Re and accounts for nearly $12 billion in business.

Almost half of the underwriters in Swiss Re PnC use the tool that provides a loss model for most treaty businesses of Swiss Re.

I headed the GRP business teams and served as the product owner of the GRP application.

As part of the GRP business team for three years, I owned the implementation of multiple critical functionalities.

I interacted with the development team in Latvia, the requirements team, and the QC teams to ensure smooth implementation of the functionalities, rollout within the framework of the processes, and minimal major defects in production.

I implemented changes in the Swiss Re Actuarial Library (SAL) which forms the calculation engine for all the calculations in the GRP. It requires a profound knowledge of JAVA and actuarial science.

I also ensured process improvement by removing intermediate processes and tools in the underwriting steps, integrated intermediate tools into the GRP, and ensured high user adoption through organized change management.

Some of my daily tasks included prioritization of the requirements and stakeholder management.

Automated Occupancy Mapper (ATOM)

Implemented a tool to automate the mapping of the occupancy to risk level. The previous process was manual, but implementing the new project saved hundreds of person-hours and enabled full automation of the manual process.

Envisioned the MVP and discussed it with the technology lead and business to estimate and plan the roadmap for the MVP. Managed the project and interacted with the stakeholders to evaluate the model and ensure the output was per expectations. Managed the scrum team as a product owner, working with the virtual team in Europe to implement the technical parts.

Early Warning Signals (EWS)

Led the emerging risk framework of the life and health (L&H) reinsurance products to anticipate the risks and opportunities and create strategies to mitigate or utilize them.

I created and maintained the solution vision, roadmap, and backlog of work, ensuring smooth implementation of the functionalities and rollout within the framework of Agile methodologies, including:
• Sourcing data and developing strategic ideas to generate forward-looking insights that impact the L&H business from internal and external data.
• Exploring applications of EWS transcending L&H. Introduced the idea of a tool for a live investment decision assisting system and ensured its implementation. It saved $2 million per year by replacing a vendor tool.
• Bringing together various teams of domain experts, IT, and analytics from various divisions of Swiss Re to create a vision for emerging risk and a process for handling the risk across the organization.
