Project History

Legacy Monolith to Kubernetes Migration

Led the migration of a core legacy accounting and billing service from Heroku to Kubernetes.

Responsible for planning, execution, and rollout. The monolith service was one of our most complicated, with a complex array of web processes, background job processes, cron jobs, and other miscellaneous responsibilities. We had to port each part over, test for functionality, configure for performance, and create a rollout plan that ensured minimal downtime. The project was a huge success and stakeholders were particularly impressed with the thoroughness of the testing, the controlled rollout, and the lack of downtime during the migration.

Wagmo Application Rewrite

Back end Rearchitecture for the Wagmo Application.

Wagmo wanted to expand its offering and be able to easily A/B test different products. However, the back-end application was architected in such a way that products were not easily configurable. Adding new products and bundles as special offerings required new code to be added each time. To provide greater extensibility and quicker time to market, I re-architected the entire Wagmo back end (data models and database tables) to unlock the ability to configure products without having to add code every time. I proposed and planned the project, built stakeholder consensus, managed the engineering team that executed the work, and led testing and rollout. The impact of this project was huge - Wagmo has been able to test new products almost monthly without any engineering or marketing overhead.

Delivery of Access Control System

Designed a new system and led the team to delivery.

Led the development of a distributed global physical access system for WeWork, enabling WeWork members to access buildings on demand based on their conference room bookings, reservations, and other requirements. I architected the application (Ruby, PostgreSQL, Redis, RabbitMQ, Kubernetes) and led the team in development and rollout. The application reduced operational overhead and made our buildings safer for members by increasing access auditability for our security team. This system still powers access for all over 500 of our buildings around the world for all of WeWork members.
