  • Improved the security practices to comply with the company's framework for GDPR and data privacy standards.
  • Supported the roadmap for the solution within the company's mid- and long-term vision.

Data Science Lead, Operations

2021 - 2021
Philip Morris International
  • Delivered the product performance predictability industrialization project with AWS, Snowflake, and Microsoft Power BI. The solution helps operators predict deviation on six chemicals in RRP products and take the right actions to address issues.
  • Drove the agronomy experimentation project to identify focus areas within the Africa region by correlating weather data, satellite, and ISRIC (soil and terrain). This is expected to increase tobacco yield for the upcoming crops.
  • Led the supply chain experimentation project for predicting the demand for spare parts and cluster those in different groups: fast movers, normal, and slow movers. This is expected to decrease inventory and the associated costs.

Manager, Artificial Intelligence

2018 - 2021
Philip Morris International
  • Recruited and built the AI team with in-house capabilities to deliver from experimentation to industrialization.
  • Delivered an image recognition solution for the retail domain through all phases of the software development lifecycle. The field force uses the solution to capture inventory at points of sale.
  • Delivered an image recognition solution that scaled to around 15 markets in less than a year, bringing efficiencies to the manual back-office operations by automating processes related to loyalty programs with retail stores.

Project Manager

2014 - 2018
Philip Morris International
  • Delivered a solution for the agronomy department within the LA&C region to enhance the ability to select farmers with whom to establish further engagements and provide credits.

  • Enhanced an application used by the Illicit Trade department for supporting the evolution of regulations on other tobacco products (OTP), non-tobacco materials (NTM), and next-generation products (NGP).

Project History

Image Recognition Solution for Retail

Led the project, from experimentation (including research) to industrialization, for an image recognition solution used by a field force when visiting points of sale in Turkey, aiding the process of recognizing brands on the shelves.

I led a team of five, consisting of a machine learning scientist, machine learning engineer, software engineer, solution architect, and data scientist. While serving as the product owner and project manager for the solution(s) we developed, I liaised with markets across the globe for opportunities. The ROI justified the cost of the project.

Leaf 2 Go

Delivered a mobile-friendly application used by field technicians in Argentina and Brazil during the crop year to maintain contract information with farmers, monitor crop inputs, and manage credit limits.

I worked closely with the agronomy department heads in both countries while liaising with the operations center in Switzerland to ensure that adherence to good agricultural and agricultural labor practices was embedded in the application. I also collaborated with a group of front- and back-end developers from a third party to prototype and develop the solution and kept track of the financials to achieve the best ROI.

Intelligent Document Processing

Delivered an MVP for a new invoice processing solution based on deep neural networks and an enhanced vanilla transformer.

I managed a machine learning scientist who led the research behind the deep neural network and its variances to achieve acceptable results compared to the other solutions being benchmarked (Kofax and InvoiceSharing), a solution architect, and a software engineer. They all contributed to hosting the trained model to be consumed in the form of an API that was further integrated with the SAP system.
