Health System Comparison Tool

An interactive visualization tool to analyze hospital financial performance with respect to their peers across a range of measures. Users can select criteria for defining market competition. Performance depends on factors such as market share and payer mix, estimated from panel regression. Data sources include multiple public data sets combined in a data mart, then fed into stats models, and then into Tableau.

Orthopedic Implant Supplies

Built a data mart inside a hospital, pulling bill-only invoices from the ERP system and matching that against preference card excepted and actual utilization in the EMR system to identify billing abuse for orthopedic implant supplies in surgery cases. Built a Tableau dashboard to reveal inconsistencies from preference cards by physician, procedure, and vendor. Management was able to show this information to the ortho co-management group, set savings targets, and track progress.

SaaS Income Statement by Service Line for A Surgery Center

Built a quarterly financial statement by physician and by service line that integrated accounting, EMR, supplies utilization, and time and attendance through APIs and bash scripts, scrubbed and organized in an AWS RDB, and then fed to Tableau Online. Required substantial scrubbing, automation, and business rules for allocating costs by procedure. The dashboard tool empowered the management to see profitability by physician and by service line in order to optimize growth.
