  • One-day Champion on Jeopardy! with Alex Trebek (Other amazing things)

I won a combined winnings of $18,000. I appeared on November 24-25, 2014 in the first-run showing on American national television and was seen subsequently in reruns and internationally.

  • SSIS Multiple File Import (Development)

This is a project where dozens of individual DTS packages were migrated to a single SSIS package that was designed to sense the type of data import being executed, then fire conditional logic based on the import format.

Included are the PGP encryption and decryption; WinZip encryption, decryption, and compression; enhanced logging; file system cleanup; VB.NET custom components; and other intermediate-to-advanced SSIS features.

  • Employee of the Year, Durham Areacorp Inc. (Other amazing things)

I won an award in the year 2001 for excellence in the implementation of a major enterprise practice management system for a large public health organization. My duties included database administration, enhancement of functionality through the creation of database objects, automation using SQL server agent and stored procedures, and reporting using T-SQL and Crystal Reports.

  • Web Traffic Analysis Engine (Development)

This is an example of an engine created in Microsoft SQL Server for analyzing and mining large web traffic data sets. Included are all of the stored procedures and functions needed to first load the data from a variety of outside sources, then to mine the data for relevant and identifying information for use in a web analytics data warehouse.

  • Feature Article, ONE Magazine (Other amazing things)

This is a feature story published in the spring of 2004 that highlighted my approach to software implementation and some of the techniques that I employed for a successful software implementation. Included was a discussion of an "Agile" implementation approach where the customer and vendor engage in a series of implementation sprints, checking in at pre-defined periods of time, and iterating based on the changing needs of the organization or as the understanding of the software led to the creation of new assignments.

ONE Magazine was a publication for the public health software industry, highlighting national standards, use cases, novel solutions, and other useful information and techniques for healthcare software professionals.

  • B2B DBMS Model (Development)

A simple data model for a B2B eCommerce platform including strong referential integrity, full normalization, and a unified entity model for combining demographics and other common, reusable data points.

  • Founders Award | CMHC Systems (Other amazing things)

I received an award in March of 2003 while leading the Windows Technical Implementation Team. We were singled out for reducing the typical implementation timeframe at this then 25-year-old company from two years to 88 days using the "Agile" implementation approach that I developed while on staff.

  • EBAA Annual Report (Development)

This procedure creates a report based on the Eye Bank Association of America's annual reporting requirements for all eye banks in the United States and Canada. It is an example of creating highly conditional logic based on a set of specific requirements. Furthermore, it is an example of deriving a report from a system that is not optimized for reporting; rather, the source system, in this case, is an OLTP system that changes moment-to-moment.
