The most amazing...

...milestone I've achieved is scaling an AI team to 20 engineers at a high-growth startup while tackling research projects in machine learning and computer vision.

Work Experience

Freelancer

2020 - PRESENT
Freelancing
  • Built a multi-sensor device for vital signs monitoring with real-time processing constraints while working on computer vision machine learning for preventive healthcare at home.
  • Contributed to user testing automation using reinforcement learning.
  • Acted as the interim CTO for a startup developing a visual inspection tool for the pharmaceutical industry.
Technologies: Python 3, SQL, Amazon Web Services (AWS), OpenCV, PyTorch, TensorFlow

Engineering Manager

2017 - 2020
Meero
  • Built an end-to-end automatic photograph enhancement platform and structured a data aggregation and processing pipeline to feed our machine learning algorithms.
  • Hired a team of 20 engineers and PhDs, counting nine nationalities and a 1:1 gender ratio.
  • Collaborated with operational teams to build internal tools and established partnerships with both academic and industry key players.
  • Contributed to several state-of-the-art problems in computer vision and machine learning, mostly about image enhancement and semantic understanding.
Technologies: Python 3, PyTorch, Amazon Web Services (AWS), OpenCV

Computer Vision Engineer

2016 - 2017
Digeiz
  • Researched and developed real-time computer vision methods for real-time in-store analytics.
  • Developed a camera calibration library, aiming for beyond state-of-the-art results.
  • Developed tools to automate software deployment on embedded Linux machines like desktop and NVIDIA Jetson Nano.
Technologies: C++, OpenCV, Linux

Computer Vision Research Engineer

2016 - 2016
Orah
  • Worked on a C++ library to stereo-calibrate wide-angle circular fisheye cameras.
  • Researched the extension of rectilinear epipolar geometry to stereographic (spherical) projection.
  • Contributed to the internal library codebase, as part of the online calibration tools.
Technologies: C++, OpenCV, Computer Vision

Stereo-calibration and Epipolar Geometry of Fisheye Cameras

https://github.com/Leo-Mrl/fisheye_stereocalibration
This is an interactive tool to perform the camera calibration using a spherical lens model, and then display its epipolar geometry, yielding epipolar curves instead of epipolar lines.

This project was part of my research work at Orah.

End-to-end Photograph Enhancement System

An end-to-end software solution allowing the automatic enhancement of professional quality photographs.

• Built with Python 3 and PostgreSQL, using TensorFlow, PyTorch, OpenCV, and Pandas.
• Microservice architecture wrapped in a RESTful API for internal use.
• State-of-the-art deep learning models for several tasks of the pipeline.
