Experience

Automation Solution for a Kubernetes Environment

We showcased this project for a telecommunications customer who presented us with a highly sophisticated, secure, and completely air-gapped environment. We had to automate the system's entire deployment, covering the whole Kubernetes stack, Docker registries, an application, Jenkins pipelines, and the Ceph storage solution.

I helped simulate the entire bare-metal environment on Google Cloud Platform (GCP) instances through automation (Terraform and Argo CD). I also wrote pipelines in Ansible and Jenkins that connected to the remote air-gapped environment and deployed the entire Kubernetes stack, Docker registries, and the app.

The fact that the environment was air-gapped made the project very challenging. We had to figure out every Docker container layer needed for the application and Kubernetes to work properly. For that purpose, I developed a Helm plugin that scanned the simulated environment in GCP, collected all Docker containers/layers, and efficiently pushed them to the remote air-gapped environment with pipelines.
