Migration of 20+ DB2 Databases from AIX to Linux for Enhanced Performance and Cost Efficiency
The client aimed to migrate their legacy DB2 9.7 databases, hosted on an AIX machine with impending end-of-support, to a more modern environment. The objective was to upgrade to DB2 v11.5 and transition the databases to a Linux VM, enhancing supportability and cost-efficiency.
From the outset, I took ownership of the project, carefully assessing the existing infrastructure and understanding the client’s requirements. I led the planning and execution phases, ensuring a smooth migration by selecting the right tools, coordinating resources, and mitigating risks. I worked closely with the client’s IT team throughout the process to ensure minimal disruption, thorough testing, and a seamless cutover to the new environment. As a result, the migration was completed on schedule, achieving the desired performance improvements and cost savings while ensuring future scalability and supportability.
