Experience

  • JuiceReel App
    https://www.juicereel.com

A Swift-based app for visualizing bets placed on sports on multiple providers.

I was the lead back-end developer and architect who liaised with the front-end developer to integrate the application. The application shows a user's bets, the current odds for a running game in real-time, historical tallies, and other performance metrics. We also created a React-based administrative dashboard to allow user management and internal event monitoring, supported by the same back end.

As the back-end developer, I worked with the app developer and CEO to design and implement an API that was performant and cost-effective. The project was completed using serverless Lambda container technologies for the back end's Node.js API and serverless MySQL for the database. In order to deliver real-time eventing information, Amazon Kinesis Data Firehose with AWS Lambda and a time-series database were used.

  • Global Kubernetes Expansion
    https://www.deepaffex.ai

This was a year-long project to migrate infrastructure from Elastic Beanstalk to Kubernetes and create a globally expanded presence on every continent with regulatory compliance.

I was the architect and developer of the global rollout plan, which involved migrating all infrastructure to Kubernetes and expanding the company's presence globally. This involved deploying Kubernetes clusters and PostgreSQL databases on every continent, which ran synchronously in real-time to serve our global audience.

The infrastructure was built to perform up to one million requests per second, GDPR-compliant, SOC2-compliant, and HIPAA-compliant, including being subject to regular penetration tests.

As the chief architect on the project, I worked directly with the CTO to design and implement the plan. The project took a year and is currently in production on every continent and mainland China. A replica database backs each regional cluster in sync with other global databases. A data pipeline carrying events from all clusters connects to a back-end Elasticsearch cluster to provide monitoring, alerting, and platform insights.

  • Containerized and Onboarded Kubernetes

A mobile platform that allows people to compete with one another on various challenges and win cash. The platform currently has a mobile app live on the App Store and the Google Play Store.

I worked on the team directly reporting to the CTO to:
    • Containerized all APIs, including Python and Django, and MySQL and PostgreSQL databases.
    • Built CI/CD pipelines.
    • Architected a new cloud framework to support a Kubernetes-first cloud-native workflow.
    • Supported implementations for regional GDPR compliance.
    • Enhanced cluster performance across multiple global regions to load balance users while maintaining compliance requirements.
    • Created a replica local development environment as per cloud environment.
    • Introduced infrastructure as code (IaC) development through Pulumi.
    • Created an asynchronous task execution system through KEDA to replace legacy CronJob and Celery worker implementation.

The project was developed entirely in AWS using TypeScript for Pulumi IaC. Kubernetes was deployed and managed by me using Helm, Pulumi, and eksctl, a command-line tool for working with EKS clusters that automates many individual tasks.
