Work Experience

Software Engineer

2018 - 2022
Microsoft
  • Developed and maintained internet-scaled, low-latency classic back-end code that included trafficking and proxy logic, business logic, and an IO layer.
  • Developed, deployed, and maintained features and microservices on Microsoft's Azure cloud platform and internal dev tools.
  • Integrated with other teams across the globe to allow Microsoft's recommendation service to be mounted on other platforms.
  • Implemented the intelligent scheduling mechanism for FSI as part of Microsoft's cloud for finance solutions. This included working with PMs and various stakeholders from other teams to design and implement an E2E scheduling solution.
  • Owned daily scrum meetings orchestration regarding Microsoft's cloud for the FSI team—loan and scheduling.
  • Spearheaded Microsoft's cloud handling for the FSI group on-call ticket management, ensuring the group's incidents were addressed and reflected in front of Microsoft's global stakeholders.

Lead Developer

2017 - 2018
Cyberwrite
  • Utilized Python (Django) and Ansible, wrote and maintained an AWS-mounted mid-scale data collection operation that utilized various tools, including web scrapers and third-party APIs.
  • Implemented and integrated statistical models written in R and Python into the final product, cooperating with Cyberwrite's chief actuary.
  • Successfully developed and delivered a paid pilot project to a major US insurance company.
  • Handled administrative tasks arising from technological issues such as monthly billings, customer support, following up on interesting leads, and more. I was the first company employee.

My Personal Website

https://shayschwartzburd.com/
The portfolio website that I use to summarize my career and as a pallet for uploading various spare-time projects I've been working on, testing out, and playing around using new technologies.

Initial Conditions – A Unity Powered Game Based on Gravity

As an avid gamer, I've always thought of creating a video game instead of playing it. This is where that vision comes to life.

The game won second place in Unity's July showcase competition and is available on the web, PC, and mobile.

"Utilize nothing but gravity as you set up your initial conditions to lead your ship on an interstellar journey across space!"

Anyway @ Public Knowledge Workshop

https://github.com/hasadna/anyway
The Public Knowledge Workshop is an effort to apply technology to enhance democracy and empower citizens. The workshop contains a few open-source projects, including "Anyway," which aims to reduce road accidents by raising public awareness of existing road hazards, leading towards safer road behavior, and collaborating with authorities to assist and drive to find solutions in light of "Vision Zero." Such solutions will improve road infrastructure and behavioral problems to prevent road fatalities.

The coding project consists of an interactive map that presents locations and information regarding traffic accidents, including casualties, information originating from the Central Bureau of Statistics, and traffic violations reported by road vigilantes. The website allows visitors to discuss possible solutions in their residential or drive zone to develop field solutions by both drivers and pedestrians, on both local and national scope.

My role as a contributor has been to help maintain and improve code quality, implement new features and widgets, and implement and bootstrap new data collection techniques such as enhancing location accuracy.

Vagabond – A Travel App for Backpackers

https://shaysw.wixsite.com/vagabond
In my spare time, I've conceptualized, designed, and built a travel guide app for backpackers. This 2-year process included learning development and design for Android from scratch, integrating various technologies and APIs to a single project, building server-side support, and eventually creating an MVP.
