This extract is installed in multiple Cerner hospital clients throughout Louisiana. Each record in the extract is formatted as a fixed-width record, some 5,200 characters in length, and describes over 260 different aspects of the hospital encounter (visit).
These 260+ fields are drawn from a database (Cerner Millennium) with hundreds of tables and thousands of fields. Finding the expected data efficiently requires a high level of knowledge of the database, extensive data mining and testing to pick the correct data, and, finally, extensive (ETL) know-how to format it in an acceptable record(s) for the extract.
Finally, the extract must be scheduled and transferred to the network to be added to the LHIN data warehouse.
