Data Model Optimization

As part of an industrial project, I rewrote existing ETL code in QlikView scripting for a hierarchical ownership model that was supposed to produce monthly ownership branches. However, because of overlapping ownership start/end dates for different ownership levels, it was providing duplicate data which was not detectable in data visualizations which created significant performance problems—the rewritten code noticeably improved performance.

Database Query Optimization

As part of an industrial project, I identified and optimized queries in MySQL database. A transactional system and reporting solution generated the queries. An analysis allowed me to identify regular reporting queries that were slowing down the performance of the transactional system and replace some automatically generated queries with manually written ones that were optimized to use existing indexes.

Learning New Things

In the summer of 2019, a friend asked if I can help with writing an iPhone app. (The app is currently being prepared for release). I learned Swift, and in four weeks, we managed to finish parts of the app responsible for sending/receiving asynchronous data requests and presenting the user with data once collected.
