Darko is an all-around product person with strong background in UX and IxD as well as web development, product marketing, and analytics. His passion is building and growing SaaS-enabled marketplaces, helping platform providers create new and grow existing revenue sources, and ultimately live happier lives. He's worked across silos to help teams design, build, and market their products.
Led a small team of developers and designers to revamp a legacy marketplace system used by transporters and shippers to book trips in the US.
Led analytics projects to ensure data is available to support future product initiatives. I planned and implemented a large part of Mixpanel tracking and built reports to inform the rest of the team.
Ran multiple research projects, from phone interviews to surveys, with the goal of understanding user pains and jobs and motivations.
Refactored legacy PHP code into a modern API supported by a cloud infrastructure. While this may seem odd for a designer to do, note that I did spend a lot of time in web development. This was a beautiful learning experience too. After a year and as the team grew, I was in charge of hiring dedicated back-end developers as I transitioned into a product management role. One of my strongest learning points is just realizing how difficult it is to build and scale a marketplace, but at the same time how rewarding it is when you help people create and grow their own businesses.

How do designers balance a website’s originality with its user-friendliness? Do they retreat to the safety of what is acceptable and risk the design falling flat, or implement a risky but unique design?
