By identifying these hidden EV loads early, the model enabled DTE to proactively manage capacity planning at the subdivision level, reducing service degradation, cutting resident complaints, and mitigating the operational and reputational risk of recurring outages. Once a model-flagged customer was confirmed, DTE's customer department would reach out to the EV owner to offer installation of a dedicated EV charging meter, paired with a discounted rate plan—converting an unmanaged load risk into a properly metered, incentivized customer relationship.
As a result, I reduced customer complaints and outage risk across affected subdivisions, enabled proactive, data-driven capacity planning ahead of demand spikes, and increased adoption of dedicated EV metering through targeted, model-driven outreach.
