Bio

Gavrilo is a back-end engineer with 13+ years of experience building software across AAA games, SaaS, eCommerce, and oil & gas. He enjoys taking products from an idea to production: understanding the problem, designing the architecture, choosing technologies, and building systems that stay simple as they grow. Recently, he has focused on AWS serverless, distributed systems, .NET, DynamoDB, EventBridge, PostgreSQL, and technical leadership.

Work Experience

Senior Back-end Engineer

2023 - PRESENT
Illuvium.io
  • Worked as the sole back-end engineer for Illuvium Deathmatch, responsible for architecture and implementation from first design decisions to production deployment.
  • Designed back-end workflows around ~100 Lambda functions, 3 APIs, SQS, EventBridge, OpenSearch, and a single-table DynamoDB model.
  • Modeled game state flows, idempotency, caching, analytics tracking, operational tooling, and marketplace NFT data.
  • Chose when to use EventBridge and OpenSearch based on data access patterns and operational needs.
  • Reduced Lambda cold starts by upgrading to .NET 9 and removing AutoMapper.
  • Worked on Immutable zkEVM integration and NFT marketplace data modeling.
Technologies: Amazon Web Services (AWS), C#, AWS Lambda, Terraform, Amazon DynamoDB, Amazon S3 (AWS S3)

Senior Back-end Engineer

2022 - 2023
StubHub
  • Found an unused payment insurance flow by digging through a large legacy codebase, reading documentation, and asking the right questions.
  • Implemented the flow, contributing nearly $5M in additional revenue.
  • Built payment provider integrations using .NET Web API and gRPC.
  • Built an automated payment method update platform.
  • Mentored three junior developers after several senior engineers left the team.
Technologies: C#, React, JavaScript

Lead Software Engineer

2020 - 2022
Rashtan DOO
  • Designed and built Dental Lab Guru, a SaaS platform used by dental labs in six countries.
  • Designed and built MVP-DB, a serverless multi-tenant PostgreSQL platform, created because I needed it myself.
  • Led back-end architecture and development while working closely with another engineer on front-end implementation.
  • Re-architected Dental Lab Guru toward Node.js, EventBridge, and event-driven workflows.
  • Implemented subscriptions, payments, notifications, real-time updates, deployments, and CI/CD.
  • Worked directly with customers, including Rocket Lab in Ukraine, whose feedback shaped much of the product.
Technologies: C#, MySQL, React, TypeScript, Azure, Amazon Web Services (AWS), Docker, Kubernetes, .NET, ASP.NET

Software Engineer

2012 - 2022
Calsep A/S
  • Created a new revenue stream by building a .NET Web API with C# and Python SDK.
  • Built the company’s first machine-learning-assisted import tool for engineering data.
  • Developed Docker and Kubernetes deployment solutions for private-cloud deployments.
  • Built engineering tools used by customers worldwide.
  • Worked with scientists and engineers to turn research ideas into production software.
Technologies: C#, Docker, Kubernetes, .NET, Azure

Experience

Illuvium Deathmatch

https://deathmatch.illuvium.io/
I designed and built the complete back end for Illuvium Deathmatch as the only back-end engineer on the project.

The back end is built on AWS serverless and handles matchmaking, game progression, rewards, leaderboards, analytics, blockchain integration, and operational tooling. I designed the event-driven workflows, the DynamoDB data model, and the Immutable zkEVM integration while working closely with the game team as gameplay evolved.

One of the biggest challenges was keeping the back-end flexible enough to support constantly changing game rules without turning it into a maintenance nightmare.

Dental Lab Guru

https://www.dentallabguru.com/
Dental Lab Guru is a SaaS platform for dental laboratories that helps manage cases, production, deadlines, deliveries, invoicing, and communication.

I designed and built the back end from scratch and later re-architected it towards Node.js and an event-driven architecture as the product grew. Besides development, I worked directly with customers to understand their workflows and decide which features should be built next.

The most rewarding part has been seeing laboratories in different countries use the same product while continuously shaping it through their feedback.

MVP-DB

https://www.mvp-db.com/
I built MVP-DB because I wanted a simpler way to create PostgreSQL databases for new projects.

It is a serverless, multi-tenant platform that provisions isolated databases in seconds while automatically handling authentication, billing, backups, and day-to-day operations. The goal was to remove as much operational work as possible so developers could focus on building their applications instead of managing infrastructure.

I designed the entire platform around AWS serverless with simplicity, predictable pricing, and low operational overhead as the main goals.
