This PEV automated payment method, called Plug and Charge, enables customers to link their cars with a payment system operator.

Plugging the car into the charge station is enough to start the handshake between the vehicle and server by a transport layer security (TLS) connection. After finding the customer's certificate, the charging process starts immediately, billing the customer according to the amount of charge provided.
