At Alameda Health Systems, I led a hybrid data migration project to move on-premise SQL Server data, including Epic Clarity and Caboodle, into Snowflake on Azure for advanced analytics and reporting. A major challenge was maintaining OLTP systems on-premises while ensuring scalable, reliable data movement to a cloud-based warehouse. To address this, I built a custom CDC framework using watermark logic.
I leveraged Azure Data Factory (ADF) to orchestrate the pipeline using metadata-driven logic. In this setup, dynamic configurations were employed to process and store CDC data in Azure Data Lake Storage. We then used Snowflake external stages and "copy into" commands to load data into the Bronze layer. I created Data Build Tool (dbt) models to transform raw data into Silver and Gold layers, applying business rules, quality checks, and performance optimizations. This architecture ensured secure, incremental, and automated loads despite the infrastructure split, improving data freshness, metric delivery, and self-service analytics.
