Paul Shellooe (pronounced "SHELL-ew") is a senior UX designer specializing in designing complex software systems using a streamlined user-centered design process in Agile development environments. 15+ years of real-world experience designing and delivering software applications at startups to Fortune 500-level companies. Excels at working directly with developers to create award-winning software solutions on-time and under budget.
Designed a cross-platform mobile app for a major telecom company. The app was created to leverage existing dynamic network functionality that allowed users to view and control more of their network than ever before.
Brought in to the mobile project to take the labs app design that the development team had created, merge it with features from another app that allowed users to view service tickets and create a single, cohesive, cross-platform experience that was unlike anything released by the company before.
Designed an in-house developed web application that provided visibility into customers and their data at various levels. Users of the web app could look across a group or hierarchy of customers, look at a specific customer, or look at a specific piece of customer information.
The web app was designed to be a “single pane of glass” to view information from source systems. It presented (but did not store) snapshots of key information from multiple source systems, and for many users, it eliminated the need to access the actual source application.
Performed all UX design tasks on my own, including UX strategy, research, information architecture, interaction design, low and high fidelity prototyping, usability testing, user interface specifications, and visual design. Also worked closely with development in an Agile environment to see the projects from design through successful release.
Partnered with a user experience research expert to complete a wide range of user interface design projects and usability testing for many major software companies.
Projects ranged from mobile UX and web app design to overseeing a design team and managing projects from initial design through implementation. Clients included EMN8, Fluke Networks, Laurel Hill G.I.S., I.H.S., and AdPay.
Leveraged graphic design skill set extensively, creating corporate brand assets, web design elements and detailed icons for branded desktop software.
Contributed visual and UX design for software running on dedicated hardware devices that were being used in the field by skilled technicians.
Created working prototypes in Axure RP Pro for use in professional usability testing environments.
Returned to Quark to help lead the QuarkXPress 8.0 UI redesign. Co-led a 10 person UX team from initial UI concepts to the final QuarkXPress 8.0 user experience redesign which resulted in the most critically acclaimed version in the history of QuarkXPress. Promoted to UX team lead and drove the user experience for all Quark products from 2007 through 2010.
"QuarkXPress 8 manages one of the most difficult tasks in software development — rethinking the user interface to make it more efficient, more productive, and more enjoyable, without alienating the experienced user. The potential productivity gains of the new release should be considerable." - Andreas Pfeiffer, Industry Analyst and Consultant.
