Work Experience

Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) | DevOps

2021 - 2021
Digital On Us
  • Assessed and determined whether a Rancher built-in solution or a stand-alone Prometheus cluster would be the best approach for monitoring and alerts.
  • Analyzed an upgrade road map from Rancher 2.4.4 to 2.5.7 and reviewed any dependency attached.
  • Established the team's DevOps guidelines in how to collaborate by creating a bastion box with all the required tooling such as Terraform, RKE, Ansible, and a repository for the Terraform code and Ansible playbooks.
  • Planned and generated an analysis to predict how much storage we will require per cluster to store one month of metrics generated by Prometheus.
  • Created alerts at different layers (at the node level, Kubernetes components, Prometheus, and workloads) of the platform to improve the reliability of the infrastructure.
Technologies: Rancher, Kubernetes, Azure, Ansible, Terraform, Prometheus, Grafana, Helm, Bitbucket, Linux, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE)

DevOps

2018 - 2021
EPAM Systems
  • Created a POC using Anthos tech—highlighting the benefits of a hybrid/multi-cloud architecture and presenting different implementation patterns for the applications living in this architecture.
  • Built a GitOps approach across the different clusters to ensure the security and configurations of the Kubernetes clusters across different clouds (AWS, IBM Cloud, Azure, and GCP) and on-premise using the Anthos configuration.
  • Helped in the elimination of a single point of failure on the client's architecture and created a disaster recovery run book in case of an incident for a financial company.
  • Maintained and helped to support the reliability of the platform hosting different applications for an eCommerce.
  • Analyzed workload patterns and adjusted compute power to satisfy the required demand, saving up to 60,000+ DLLs per month for an eCommerce platform.
  • Collaborated with different application teams to coordinate different migrations of their components such as Cosmos database, Azure SQL, and storage accounts in Azure.
  • Migrated a notification system from PagerDuty to xMatters—creating workflows and strategies for the different components for an eCommerce.
  • Configured application for monitoring and collecting statistics on the AppDynamics side, set alerts, notifications, and informative dashboards to track user behavior and most usable widgets for a financial company.
Technologies: Anthos, GitLab, Azure, Ansible, Helm, Kubernetes, Azure DevOps, Jenkins, Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk, Akamai, Nomad, Terraform, Consul, GitOps, Linux, Apache Kafka, Bash Script, PagerDuty, xMatters, Azure Cosmos DB

IT Support Analyst | Linux Subject Matter Expert (SME)

2015 - 2018
Hewlett Packard
  • Provided my technical knowledge on how to operate and manage HP, HPE, and DXC infrastructure and some enterprise applications.
  • Created training for newcomers focused on Linux, specifically file management, process management, file system management, service management, networking, and how to troubleshoot.
  • Worked on automation scripts to reduce repetitive tasks (toil) such as clean-up storage, restart services, and general health checks to identify the issues faster.
  • Resolved incidents with different criticality and with an SLA; also helped in the deployment of new changes to the production environments by running health checks during post-implementation or troubleshooting in case of any failure.
  • Served as the Linux SME and the focal point of contact for the team (around 40 people) and in cases of new unpredictable incidents, analyzed how to resolve it or orchestrate what teams needed to be part of the resolution.
  • Participated in several internal initiatives creating motion graphics videos for different purposes.
Technologies: Linux, HP-UX, RHEL, Apache, Apache Tomcat

Animator | Filming Assistant

2014 - 2015
Universidade de Guadalajara
  • Helped to create multimedia content for a MOOC requested by the IEEE to the University of Guadalajara (My-mooc.com/en/mooc/introduction-metrics-smart-cities-ieeex-scmtx-1x).
  • Created illustrations, motion graphics, and the video edition of the course.
  • Provided support in the filming sessions, recording audio, and editing the material for the video edition.
Technologies: Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe After Effects

Anthos Proof of Concept (POC)

We were tasked by the company to create a proof of concept (POC) for Anthos (a request by a Google customer engineer) and then pitch it to one of the biggest telecommunication companies in Latin America.

I worked with a team of three where the roles switched as needed (cloud architect, cloud engineer, DevOps) in creating the POC. We also planned, designed, implemented, and presented the Anthos POC. The project's initial scope was to demonstrate all the benefits and constraints of this tech to replace Redshift—proposing a native hybrid/multi-cloud solution for their architecture.

After presenting the initial POC, the scope widened to implementing a new list of requirements from the telecommunications company. These requirements were met using GCP services such as IAM, GKE, GCS, GCR, and cloud functions, but unfortunately, once the pandemic started, the project was frozen and was never revived.

Despite the stalled nature of the project, I’m proud of it because of the work I delivered, including building “on-premise” infrastructure, leading a team and organizing priorities, showing different use cases, customizing presentations according to the audience, and presenting the architecture to a company VP.
