  • Designed and led the gravity coring and SCUBA sampling expeditions in the hyper-saline, hyper-alkaline, high-altitude Mono Lake.
  • Extracted DNA from environmental samples then amplified, cloned, and sequenced.

  • Analyzed samples with low temperature magnetometry and electron paramagnetic resonance spectroscopy.
  • Assisted with isolation of proteins for controlled magnetite precipitation, directed precipitation experiments and analysis.
  • Provided samples, strains, reagents and instruction to other researchers using magnetotactic bacteria.

I worked on the command line interface to fetch a given file from a given project and sample from the Illumina Basespace cloud environment. The interface was designed as a component for a web-based application.

Evaluation of Recommendation System Algorithms

This is an IPython Notebook in which I examine a few existing recommendation system algorithms on the MovieLens 100,000 dataset. The run-time and root-mean-square deviation (RMSE) are compared, and the rank-1 update functionality is implemented.
