Work Experience

Lead Magento Architect | Developer

2015 - PRESENT
  • Migrated a heavily patched Magento 1.13 EE core to a clean Magento 1.14 EE. In 2020, migrated it to Magento 1 CE (€30,000 per year cost-benefit), then in 2021 to OpenMage 20 (complete re-platform based on PHP 7.4, Redis 6, MariaDB 10.4).
  • Designed the server infrastructure with a 25% infrastructure cost reduction, a development workflow, and zero downtime deployment procedures.
  • Completely redesigned the front end with many front-end optimizations. Configured and deployed a new CDN, which resulted in more than a 40% increase in page-speed scores (98-99 score) and load times of less than two seconds on all pages.
  • Implemented the hard cookie law or GDPR enforcement with prior consent and consent tracing.
  • Suggested and implemented the migration from Zendesk to Tawk.to for customer support after a performance and cost analysis, resulting in a 4% page-speed increase because of better optimizations and a 100% service cost decrease.
  • Achieved fifth place in the "Best Italian eCommerce websites 2020/2021" (food or "coffee" category) and second place in the "Best Italian eCommerce websites 2022" prize (food category).

The first Italian free e-learning community. eSocrates was active for ten years between 2003 and 2013 and contained more than 500 courses in 20 languages at its peak. The project was founded by my company CreaLabs.

For many professionals, their website was just their CV, but it required a lot of time commitment to keep multiple platforms up to date.

VeloCV was active between 2015 and 2021 to solve the problem of keeping websites current by allowing LinkedIn 1click login, auto synchronization of profile data, and one-page website generation through selecting a graphic theme.

The first Italian mini-social network for frequent train travelers, connecting people on the same trains every day and giving them valuable services like timetable changes, delays info (in real time but also monthly delay reports), and other features.

The project was wholly created and developed by me; it was active between 2012 and 2018 and tracked more than 1000 trains per day.

P4A - PHP For Applications

P4A was a PHP5 RAD and object-oriented PHP framework created to allow the building of event-driven stateful web applications. It was active between 2003 and 2014, then was translated into 50 languages and had counted more than 220,000 downloads.

Ubuntu Mini Remix

Ubuntu-based live CD containing only the minimal Ubuntu package set was great as a rescue disk or as a base to create an Ubuntu derivative Linux distribution.

The project had approximately 10,000 downloads for each release from 2007 to 2017 when it was closed because the Linux panorama drastically changed, and there was no need for it anymore.

Ubuntu Italian Remix

Ubuntu official ISO plus Italian translations were practical to promote Italian Ubuntu usage, especially during multiple installations on slow Internet connections. Ubuntu Italian Remix counted approximately 2,000 downloads for each release between 2006 and 2012.

In April 2012, the Italian Ubuntu community started releasing official Italian Ubuntu ISOs. I stopped my project (primarily because I did not want to rival free software), migrated all the users to the new official one, and gave my energy to new ideas.
