Work Experience

DevOps Engineer

2017 - 2022
Lifeist wellness
  • Set up and configured AWS using best practices. Automated the deployment of AWS EC2 using AWS OpsWorks; set up a custom Chef Cookbooks repository so we can easily re-use and re-deploy instances as needed.
  • Set up Jenkins as CI/CD using the pipeline “as a code.” Migrated to Gitlab to have a centralized CI/CD solution (repositories and pipelines all in one place). This migration improved deployment time by almost 30%.
  • Set up a monitoring system using the Prometheus server to collect metrics from EC2/ECS and a Grafana server to build the dashboards from the metrics. Additionally, set up alerts to different channels, including PagerDuty.
Technologies: Amazon Web Services (AWS), Bash, Docker, Amazon Elastic Container Service (Amazon ECS), Terraform, GitLab CI/CD, Jenkins, MongoDB, PostgreSQL, System Administration

Operations Engineer

2015 - 2017
OpSitters
  • Designed a new infrastructure cluster that included a full migration to AWS. This migration had an initial AWS set up such as all the VPC components, a VPN, and NAT instance.
  • Automated the instances deployment using Chef. Used Knife EC2 CLI tool to bootstrap all the new instances in AWS and Chef cookbooks with different roles and environments to create staging and production clusters.
  • Automated the deployment process using Jenkins as part of the infra set up. The Jenkins server pulls all the code changes from a GitHub repo to the staging and production nodes using a custom Jenkins job and a deployment script.
Technologies: Amazon Web Services (AWS), LAMP, LEMP, Jenkins, Chef

Operations Engineer

2014 - 2015
Keep
  • Managed the operation deployments to CI, staging, and production environments using Chef.
  • Deployed a High Availability Pgpool cluster with master/slave replication for our environments and a Redis Sentinel as a High Availability Redis solution.
  • Deployed a custom monitoring system using Sensu and Flapjack.
  • Assisted the development team with operation issues and requirements.
Technologies: Amazon Web Services (AWS), Chef, Redis, Monitoring, Pgpool-II, Sensu

Senior Unix System Administrator

2007 - 2014
Fortress ITX
  • Installed and configured High Availability Clusters. Managed enterprise clients.
  • Conducted server performance analysis and tuning especially for DB servers.
  • Followed and enforced tasks needed to maintain operational stability.
Technologies: Linux, Web Host Manager (WHM), LAMP, MySQL, Bash

Unix System Administrator

2006 - 2007
Fortress ITX
  • Analyzed system logs to identify potential issues.
  • Developed and documented scripts to improve functionality and routine tasks.
  • Maintained the security of servers. Located vulnerabilities and applied patches.
Technologies: Linux, Bash, LAMP, Troubleshooting

Solution for Odoo

This is an open-source ERP written in Python. The code is extensive and heavy, with custom modules adding more complexity to the mix. I architected solutions for 3,500 users interacting with third-party APIs.

The final solution included several AWS EC2 instances for different "Odoo roles," some of them behind an Application Load Balancer. Several AWS ECS services and AWS API gateways interact with third-party APIs, an RDS cluster, and a few Lambda functions to run cronjobs and/or automated tasks.
