Captiz Subtitling Tool

https://medium.com/@scleriot/why-we-made-captiz-an-open-source-project-9940472909f4

Led product strategy and development for an open-source subtitling technology and won a $60,000 grant.

While developing Captiz, a translation marketplace, I realized that we needed a collaborative tool for translation, proof-reading, and quality control. I designed the mock-up, basic product specs, and set the initial priorities to create the technology. As a solo founder, I went on a quest to find a technical team (a co-founder and a lead developer) and funding, which resulted in a $60,000 grant to develop the product. We made the tool Open Source through an AGPL 3.0 license.

Captiz Marketplace

Sourced, onboarded, managed, and nurtured an ecosystem of over 700 vendors entirely remotely for over 1000 projects.

Captiz was a subtitling marketplace specialized in fast project turn-over (24 to 48 hours). This speed was three to five times faster than traditional localization agencies and was enabled with an uber-like system. Translation freelancers were vetted beforehand, received a notification when a gig was available and worked entirely on our subtitling editor online. As the CEO and co-founder, I was responsible for the product vision and strategy, business development, and partnerships. In our best year, we generated multiple six figures in revenues (USD$) and had 700 vendors within our database. Captiz was acquired and the product re-purposed by media group Lylo in 2017.

La Minute Freelance (Blog)

Set up a visibility funnel, including a blog and Pinterest account, generating 40,000 views a month across all channels.

Created a digital marketing funnel to attract leads and clients for an online school.

The acquisition pipeline worked as follows:
- Content gained visibility by the ideal audience through SEO, social media (Pinterest, Linkedin, Instagram, and Facebook).
- Leads were invited to download an incentive (lead magnet) in exchange for an email.
- Leads were nurtured through the mailing list.
- The conversion rate was an approximate 5% from the mailing to the purchase of a 1:1 program or online course.
