As an information specialist, I was in charge of a project that employed optical character recognition to read and input 1,200 monthly faxed surgical cards. Doctors were obligated to mail back a card after surgery detailing the kind of medical equipment installed and the patient who received it. Alcon is the largest provider of intraocular lenses worldwide, and the cards' volume surpassed call center agents' capacity. I oversaw a small project team researching the issue and devised a solution. I guided multiple user experience sessions to gather requirements and worked with a developer to design an input system. An easy-to-use OCR prototype was operational in three weeks. I broadened the project thanks to getting funding approved by the management. As a result, the department went from requiring two full-time agents to input the cards to only needing one agent working five hours, achieving annual cost savings of $50,000.

Created a product that enabled nurses to photograph wounds and document healing progression. Architected using HIPAA/HITECH-compliant AWS services to offer a low-cost, highly accessible mobile experience. Worked with a user experience designer to create the wireframes and developed the entire product backlog. Users were then trained through webinars and in-person launch coverage. As a result, it took much less time to document wounds, Medicare compliance increased, and the ability to deliver patient care improved for 200,000 active daily nurses.
