Seeing the financial value of some app marketplaces like the Salesforce AppExchange, company leaders wondered whether they could benefit from monetizing their gallery. Based on my research, no company has ever successfully monetized a previously free exchange.

I reviewed the marketplaces of their direct competitors and also looked outside their industry for best practices of successful exchanges. Using an Exponential Organization framework, I prepared a marketplace strategy and go-to-market plan that kept the free gallery in place and augmented it with a suite of differentiating data science solutions that could be monetized through an expanded marketplace.

Healthcare Service Design

Led a team of creative and technical staff to help envision and deliver a wholly new experience for both practices and patients in the fertility services market for IntegraMed.

I led cross-functional teams that designed and developed custom, stylable templates for a multisite WordPress implementation. I created personas, user journeys, and service blueprints to inform the design of a new patient portal, specialized patient-facing mobile apps, and a new electronic medical records system that integrates multiple legacy systems (practice management, EMR, patient relationship management, and labs) into a single, unified interface. The work also included the design of a future state technical architecture based on MuleSoft and Node.js to modernize a disparate legacy environment.

Online Brokerage Marketing and Client Site Redesign

Led a team of creative staff and technologists through a process of discovery and design of a best-in-class online trading and investment experience and the creation of a multi-year digital product roadmap for Scottrade.

Scottrade had pursued a product strategy based on the integration of third-party solutions, resulting in a disjointed-and-outdated user experience. My team's work focused on the post-login trading experience and how to integrate both in-house and vendor-based capabilities into a consistent, unified client experience.

Standardized Test Score Monitoring Product

Managed a team of developers distributed across four US timezones, Brazil, and Argentina for the implementation of a Java/Flex commercial software application serving the pre-K through 12th-grade education market for Pearson Education.

AIMSweb is a tool for teachers and parents to track student performance in standardized testing. The product is proven to uncover learning gaps quickly, identify at-risk students, and assess individual and classroom growth.

National Cable TV Operator Website and Intranet

Managed creative design and technical development teams for the creation of two CMS-enabled websites serving the Time Warner Cable Media Sales division, including both an internal sales team support site and a customer-facing marketing site.

I took over an internal and external website development project. Within the first two weeks, I realized that, due to the client’s procurement of a new CMS system, an additional 500 hours would be required to integrate the planned sites with the new system.

This analysis brought two distinct positive results: commendation for the quick issue recognition and presentation and taught me the importance of creating highly specified contracts.

Wealth Management Website Redesign

Managed a small team of creative design, copywriting, and user experience resources through the final stages of conceptual design and all of a detailed design for the BNY Mellon website.

When I stepped into this role, the project was well underway, but it was in complete disarray because an executive was (poorly) playing the role of a project manager. The team was confused about what was expected and what to work on next. The client was also unhappy because of the lack of visibility into the current status of the promised deliverables and a general lack of confidence in the team.

I quickly assessed the work completed to date and the outstanding work and necessary effort not just to meet the obligations of the statement of work but to make sure that the client was satisfied, and I implemented a regular status reporting meeting with the client. Although the work came in a couple of weeks late compared to the initial estimate, the client was happy with the final product and maintained a relationship with my company after I moved on to another project.

Provided account management, team leadership and experience design for the creation of a custom Flex application for tracking, analyzing and improving customer loyalty based on the Net Promoter Score (NPS) methodology.

After delivering what the client buyer described as "the best pitch I've ever seen," I led an outsourced design and development team in the creation of a product used by Franklin Covey's professional development group in its NPS training service for use by corporate trainees to track NPS after learning the methodology.

T. Rowe Price had a lot of tools to help clients analyze their portfolio and plan for retirement, but they needed something to help those who are already in retirement to better plan their spending in order to avoid exhausting their retirement funds too quickly. I secured T. Rowe. Price as a client, planned the engagement, and oversaw execution and delivery.

DigitalGlobe (now Maxar) hired me to help them enter a new market for their satellite imagery service, taking their high-resolution earth imagery to the enterprise market through integrations with map-oriented software applications used in the supply chain, insurance, customer support, shipping, and many other industries. Unfortunately, their on-premise, self-hosted imagery service didn't meet market requirements and was more expensive than that of their competitors.

I developed a strategy that was oriented around moving their entire system to the cloud while enhancing it with value-added solutions that would allow them to solve problems for multiple enterprise markets rather than merely being a provider of raw data.

Veon Interactive Streaming Video

Led the specification and launch of a major new release of suite of products for authoring and delivering clickable video.

VeonSuite was a portfolio of products including an authoring tool, streaming server, and viewer that allowed content developers to create and deliver interactive video with clickable hotspots. The hotspots could be static and styled like a button or dynamic and transparent, following but not obscuring content moving within the video such as an actor's item of clothing.

As acting director of product management, I created the MRD and product specifications for the new release that focused on improving the authoring experience for content developers and preparing the platform for delivery via application service providers (ASPs), which were the precursor to the cloud-based SaaS model in use today.
I also created all of the go-to-market messaging and materials and delivered training to key content partners.

B2B2C SaaS Travel Services Purchasing Platform

I was recruited by an independent entrepreneur operating in stealth mode to productize his patent-pending idea for a industry-changing way to purchase travel and other perishable services. My work included all aspects of turning his basic idea into a viable product offering ready to move into development. Using my work, he successfully landed seed funding to get his idea off the ground.

Inteleos is a provider of specialty healthcare certifications for operators of ultrasound devices through their family of associations including ARDMS, APCA, and POCUS. In mid 2022, they released a pilot mobile app aimed at reducing certificants' need to take periodic, expensive, high-stakes exams and instead to have access to regular, low-stakes quizzes in order to maintain certification. I served as product owner, overseeing all aspects of product operations including management of outsourced development, data analysis and reporting, and optimizing content creation operations.
